USG Interiors

Location: 208 Adeline Street, Walworth, WI

Project Manager: Jess Balestrieri

Field Manager: Giezi Lechuga

The exterior walls, catwalks, assembly lines, and piping of the USG Interiors building were coated in flaking lead-based paint, presenting both a safety concern and a barrier to proper recoating. Balestrieri conducted a thorough inspection carefully extracting paint samples from the deteriorating surface. Laboratory analysis confirmed extremely high lead levels, reinforcing the need for a comprehensive and controlled removal process.

With these results, our team developed a plan to safely remove all lead-based paint from the building’s exterior. Given the scale of the structure, the height of the components, and the presence of catwalks, piping, and stairwells branching off the main section, the work required precise coordination. Environmental factors, particularly weather conditions, added another layer of complexity that had to be managed throughout the project.

Upon completion, all surfaces were restored to a clean, prepared surface ready for recoating. This project not only enhanced the appearance of the facility but also established a solid foundation for long term coating performance – reducing the risk of future corrosion and extending the lifespan of the structure.
