Project Summary
A public audience may make a traditional contractor nervous, but not our crew. Balestrieri was entrusted to demolish the 170-year-old St. Alphonsus Catholic Church rectory in Kenosha County, drawing a crowd of parishioners and reporters alike. Built in 1851, the structure only took about an hour to demo.
Said project manager Richard Heyer, “They trusted us because of our experience in the environmental world. This was a very high-profile job in the community. We knew a lot of eyes would be on it. But there’s nothing to be nervous about when you’re doing it right.”
Rather than researching and hiring separate companies for inspection, abatement, and demolition, Balestrieri handled all aspects of this project. Commented Heyer, “This project is a perfect example of how turn-key our services are, since we were the only contractor involved from start to finish. The challenge is doing everything you’re supposed to do, not just what you think to do, so that the church is not liable.”
The rectory was no longer utilized due to high maintenance costs, and a decision was reached that it would be more cost effective to demolish the structure than to keep it standing. Heyer worked with all church board members to help them understand the importance of proper environmental remediation prior to the demo.
