In 2008, the EPA approved a Lead-Based Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program as part of the "Renovate Right" Federal initiative. As of April 2010, contractors, property managers, and maintenance personnel working in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 have to be certified that they are following EPA standards for lead-based paint testing, removal, and remediation.
