Balestrieri team members are looking forward to the 2017 Wisconsin Asbestos Conference (WAC) which will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Kalahari Resort and Conference Center in the Wisconsin Dells.

Our own Rich Heyer is representing Balestrieri on the committee this year – taking an active role in planning this great industry event.

“This is a great event to learn more about growing trends in the industry,” Heyer said. “The Wisconsin Asbestos Conference gives us the chance to spend the day networking with regulators, environmental professionals, developers, contractors, inspectors, construction contractors, and others involved in the asbestos abatement and construction related industries.”

Balestrieri Environmental & Development is a Serpentine-level sponsor of WAC, and will have an exhibition booth at the conference. We encourage all attendees to visit with our representatives to learn more about our environmentally diverse role in the construction industry.

Several of our team members will also be attending a pre-conference networking event at the WI Brew Pub in the Kalahari on Thursday, December 7, 2017. This informal evening is an excellent way to relax and catch up with numerous contractors, regulators, and vendors throughout the state.

Keynote Selection & 2017 Conference Highlights

Similar to last year, the committee has met to determine the various conference speakers, meeting logistics, funding, and sponsorship opportunities. Sharing ideas and open discussions occur throughout each meeting, allowing all members to voice their particular viewpoint – from all angles of the industry.

“The committee has members from OSHA, DNR, DHS, and UW Facilities, as well as industry training professionals, consultants, and contractors,” Rich commented. “It’s a real cross-section where everyone is equally represented to work for the good of the industry.”

Selecting topics for the conference is a process which involves brainstorming by committee members. Many topics are chosen based on common questions and/or problems regulators, consultants, and/or contractors encounter throughout the year.

These topics are considered, as is the availability of a professional willing to speak about them, and are decided on by vote.

Keynote Speakers for 2017 include:

  • Keynote Topic 1 – “Properly Managing Waste Streams” by Casey Lamensky and Mark Davis of WI DNR
  • Keynote Topic 2 – “Are the Symptoms from Hypersensitivities or Psychological Disorders?” by Cassidy Kuchenbaker of Environmental Initiatives

Other 2017 Highlights include:

  • Flooring adhesives (as they relate to chemical and mechanical abatement)
  • Opportunity for a 2-Hour Asbestos Awareness class
  • Presentation on ASTM Best Practices
  • School Asbestos Designated Persons training
  • Glove Bag Challenge – Perform a mock glove bag abatement to pass the inspection of a regulator
  • Update on DNR and DHS rules, regulations, common problems seen by DNR regulators

“My first year on the committee has been great, and I am happy to be involved in the decision making process,” Heyer says. “It is great to have a voice in making this conference as educational and interactive as possible for all aspects of the industry.”

We are very excited about this year’s conference and look forward to introducing ourselves. For additional conference updates, be sure to sign up for our email newsletter in the side-bar, and click here for the full 2017 Wisconsin Asbestos Conference Agenda.
