The former Joy Global, leader in high productivity mining solutions, has recently been acquired by Komatsu. Established in 1921, Komatsu is a worldwide leader specializing in industrial construction and mining solutions. Komatsu will continue to offer the top of the line mining equipment brands such as P&H, Joy and Mortebert. In its early years Pawling & Harnischfeger (P&H) manufacturing designed and manufactured ‘bridge cranes’. This manufacturing facility has gone through a series of ownerships with current owners Komatsu Global Mining.

Services Provided by Balestrieri

  • Asbestos Abatement
  • Adaptive Reuse

With the rebranding of the facility, it was discovered that the siding of the western facing wall of the building contained an asbestos containing building material (ACBM). Faced with an increasingly tight schedule, sign contractors were made aware of the presence of the asbestos content in the insulating layer of the building siding. Lemberg Electric, Sign Division contracted with Balestrieri and devised a method of removal that would keep the project on track for the internationally publicized ribbon cutting event.

Balestrieri performed a test location within the building and conducted a review with on-site health and safety managers. The plan was approved and through experience, Balestrieri’s Field Management cleaned a pathway throughout the nearly 300 foot mounting location contractors needed to drill for the fastener installation of the impressive L.E.D. backlit sign.
